Someone Awesome Who’s Also Rising To A 365-Day Challenge

Hey there!

You’d think I’m the only person crazy enough to try to create something every single day for a year…in my case, these daily videos.

But no. There’s someone else, and he’s awesome. And he’s doing it for his baby girl.

Matt’s site: https://cielo365stories.com

Hope this helps!

Raw YouTube Captioning

hey there it’s David H Lawrence the 17th
and you would think that there aren’t
very many people in the world that are
crazy enough to try and do something
every single day like I’m doing with
these videos but there are people who
are trying to do something and
accomplishing it and doing really great
things I had a chance to speak to one of
them just a few moments ago hey
technology how’s it going okay great
good to meet you last sorry bad earlier
no worries no worries I wouldn’t got
this far my wife hadn’t have done it oh
so um terrific we’re talking with Matt
Szczur Bo and Matt is matt is a really
amazing guy I like many people in the
world got to know him from an article
that appeared in The New York Times and
it was about something that I thought I
was the only person in the world that
was doing which was trying to do
something the same thing create
something new every day for 365 days
tell people what you’re creating every
day instead of stupid videos what is it
that you’re creating every single day
for 365 days this no stupid I know at
least for people that have done 365 one
woman I know paid drew a zombie everyday
for the year okay I knew someone who was
determined to do something they had
never done before in their life every
day for a year which was a great
Challenger awesome job but mine has been
to write a children’s book complete with
the art direction in case any kids want
to draw a book with their parents
interact with their kids or classes
every day for you so just to be clear
for those of us who maybe find your
Australian accent a little bit difficult
to to grasp all the words you’re writing
or or we just find it a little
unbelievable you’re writing a new
children’s book with artistic direction
so when you read them if you
to his website and and check it out you
you can see where he’s talking about how
to illustrate the books every single day
for a year what what prompted you to do
this a number of reasons are the closest
ID the art direction is also very dandy
of it’s become I didn’t realize when I
started but they’re blind applications a
lot of kids who at books blankets or
twelve books don’t get to get the
visuals whereas because the are
directions in there explaining the
visual so apparently has become a really
good learning tool for the blind which
I’m really proud of I liked it so was
deliberate but it’s a nice little
accident um as for what prompted it um I
look I’m a shortlisted author in
Australia um no mug and writings been
good to me and I’ve got a beautiful baby
girl called Cielo here in the back seat
don’t we yes you do and probably saying
why are we in the playground now but but
um I just wanted to give something back
I wanted to give something back for
writing but more importantly to my
little girl I wanted to do something
that was free and and imagination trumps
violence and ignorance and and if all
these stories just show kids how easy
stories are and and how fun there and if
if we can inspire even two or three kids
who love stories will have made a better
world for my girl so it was it’s just a
love letter to my darling little
princess really so she’s just shy of two
she’s like 20 21 months old
is there a does she have any idea what
you’re doing I mean is she like everyday
for you to read her the stories no she
doesn’t she’s too young but hopefully
it’ll be a legacy both of the stories
and also a legacy of commitment because
I work very physical jobs in in the bush
I had to cruise and and say yeah so this
story 339 I think was last night
almost a year since I’ve had more than
four five hour sleep that’s great for
people that don’t know Matt’s backstory
he he goes out and gets oysters among
other things is that correct yeah after
30 is working in the bush I wanted um
and dragging my wife all around the
country my job was the the up in the
tropics one month in the desert for six
months down south in the snow
we decided on something a bit more
permanent at least for now and oyster
farming I say up at 5 a.m. ready to go
it allows for lots of family time and
and writing stories at the end of the
day so yeah III really appreciate you
giving us a little bit of your time I
just have a few more questions just
fascinated by this people ask me all the
time do you really do a new video like
every morning or every night or every
day do you get ahead of yourself do you
do actually a daily routine of this
order are there some days where you
write more than one and you kind of get
ahead or what’s the story you know
there’s not much crew taking our lives
I’m afraid but but but notice the
challenge was mine today sometimes I’m
up till 4:00 a.m. then gotta start work
at 5:00 but but that’s the challenge the
challenge was one a day so um so I work
I still play Australian rules football
[Applause]
spend time with my wife and child which
is what it’s about
there’s not one it’s the one time we
don’t compromise and the rest is just
stubbornness yeah as you rules football
rules do you have any favorites of the
stories that you’ve written have you
gone that is stellar yeah you’d like to
say um you’d like to say you don’t know
you love your children equally but yeah
I am I love the girl with 1,000 teeth
it’s just absurd but it has a really
nice little underlying message you don’t
wanna hit people on the head with you
message but you want it to be there it’s
a it’s a boy who has his family tree
growing out of the
of his head and finds it very socially
awkward because they all scream and
shout and tell him what to do and
yesterday decide whether to 5ml be a man
and he falls in love with a girl with
1000 teeth who is very cute but quite
scary when she smiles
yeah have you had any interest from
publishers I know when they did the
stories of the New York Times it was
just you weren’t doing this to get
things published that you were just
doing it to do it but since you’ve
gotten a bit of notoriety – have you
gotten any interest from publishers oh
yes we have from that day some some big
names which is very flattering and it’s
nice but as I said it’s not not why
we’re doing it as you said it’s not why
we’re doing it it’s um we’re doing it
for love of stories and fraud for a girl
and if bigger and better things come of
that then terrific of course will will
say well I’m a storytelling coach and
this this just resonates with me like
crazy I have to ask you please if you’re
gonna do this if you’re gonna go to a
publisher please PLEASE plan on doing an
audiobook version of these stories
that’s are not thinking beyond finishing
those stories but I hear what you’re
saying I all do books are great I can’t
get my head around beyond writing 365
kids books for now and and the audio
books we have a problem on down one of
my novels are and magnificent things
magnificent things and singing happening
in the background or as I love it I love
it do you think let me just wrap up with
this cuz I know you got a day it’s a
Sunday there in Australia how do you
think you’ll feel when you finish up
number 365 or 366 whatever you plan on
doing what do you think is that moments
gonna be like I know what it’s like for
me I’ll be annoyed at myself that could
have done a number of stories better
I’ll be a little bit frustrated that I
should have spent more time on it
somehow
and my wife will be extremely grateful
that I can get some sleep
Cielo is is Spanish for heaven is that
right
Ryan heaven I see Ella’s yeah what is
the website where people can find all of
these these stories clo3 seed spawn
stories calm very simple cie el o365
stories calm i so appreciate you taking
the time to be with us and i she’s such
a cutie pie back there that’s just great
and I can’t wait to see what happens
with the rest of this story Thank You
Man
I’m very grateful when he gonna see if
we can this is one who’s all about there
she is there oh I see yeah oh that’s so
sweet
she’s waving at herself oh there is now
my wife is a is a beautiful Venezuelan
woman and there’s no way I could have
done it without her not many wives would
understand what it’s like to not go to
bed together free year and and she’s
just she understands who I am why we are
doing it and it’s a team effort so
that’s right
well man thank you so much I so
appreciate it and I’ll let you get back
to your Sunday very very gratefully
interest in it was great to chant thank
you very much yeah let’s stay in touch
talk to you soon all right bye
so that was Matt Zerbo and his daughter
Cielo who’s such a cutie pie and she’s
going swimming now
and as we were wrapping up that little
conversation on zoom he said what are
the names of your girls I’ll wrap a
little story around it and I’m like wow
okay cool so I’m gonna send him some
information and and that’s the thing
it’s like as you’re doing something of
this kind of high volume you’re
constantly looking for ideas and so but
I think it’s just massively cool that
he’s almost finished with his challenge
and that it has drawn the attention of
some big publishers that’s kind of cool
I wonder what you would do if you had
the opportunity to really ramp up your
ability to create over the course of a
year he had mentioned that there was a a
guy who was gonna do something different
every day for a year a a woman that had
something to do with zombies every day
for a year what would you do if you
wanted to challenge yourself to get
comfortable with being agile with
creation because that’s really the
benefit for me of doing these and I’m
sure format aside from creating a legacy
for his his baby girl is this ability to
do something without waiting without
preparing forever without getting
everything aligned up perfectly just
doing things what would you want to do
what would it be what would it be
tell me in the comments below I’d love
to know and again it’s CLO 365 stories
com in case you want to go visit their
website and if you want to join my list
there’s a subscribe button somewhere
below this video and if you want to see
the latest video I’ve produced maybe
you’re watching these one-a-day videos
out of order and you want to see the
latest one I’ve done go ahead and click
on that frame and YouTube will play it
for you I’m David H Lawrence xvii I so
appreciate you watching and I will talk
to you tomorrow.

I love it when I see a completely original idea, at least from my perspective. I’ve heard a phrase with regard to there being no original ideas, but stuff like this is completely new, at least to me. When Nirvana and “Grunge” became popular it was this new, original style of music (to those outside Seattle anyway). When “The Blair Witch Project” became popular it was a new, original kind of film. I don’t think “found footage” was ever done before. Regardless of whether or not something has appeared at any point in history, I love it when something new or largely unheard of is brought into main stream culture in a big way. I sometimes wonder what I could do that wold be similar. I’m still wondering :) Thanks for the video David.

This such a cool idea!!! I love it! Lucky little girl to have a papa who loves her so much. These videos rock!!!! I’d love to do something for our non-profit for 365 days. My mind is going. I’m following him now. You are both so inspiring. I’m going to illustrate some of his stories. Yeah for creatives!!!
