Your Day Job Might Just Be Worth Keeping For A Bit Longer

Hey there!

Many of the talent that I coach want VO to be a side hustle, or in addition to the rest of their acting portfolio, or something they do for a bit of extra cash or personal satisfaction.

And then, I have clients that are looking to ditch their day job and make VO their main source of income.

Whatever works for you, go for it. But if you’re looking to make VO your sole income stream, think long and hard before taking the plunge and saying good bye to your role in the Starbucks universe.

Are You Engaged?

Hey there!

Have you ever signed up for a class, an event or a seminar, but had “life happen?” You had all the best intentions in the world to make the class useful, to attend, do the work and more, but you just couldn’t figure out how to best take advantage?

It’s happened to all of us. A piece of advice, however…engagement is your responsibility as well as your teacher/instructor/coach. Here’s a cautionary tale about not blaming or shaming the wrong party.

Who Says You Need To “Feel Like It?”

Hey there!

I just read an article over on the Harvard Business Review that is so packed with juicy stuff, I only have time to share a bit of it at a time. It was written by Heidi Grant back on Valentine’s Day in 2014, and it was titled How To Make Yourself Work When You Just Don’t Want To.

And this one item I want to share with you is the juiciest of the juicy.

Non-Union? You Can Still Open An AFTRA H&R Account. What?

Hey there!

If you hang around the union HQ here in LA long enough, you learn some very interesting things.

For instance, you actually don’t have to be a member of SAG-AFTRA to open an AFTRA H&R (health and retirement) account. You’re guaranteed that right by federal law.

Opening the account is one thing, but getting the benefit of it is something else.

Here’s what that’s all about:

ACX Jobs: They’re ALL SAG-AFTRA-Friendly

Hey, there!

Here’s some really good news if you’re an SAG-AFTRA member, looking for work as an audiobook narrator on ACX.

This is big news to some, and, unfortunately, viewed as not likely by some union members.

Trust me. It’s for real.

Helping Make Resolutions Stick

Hey there!

I just got finished reading an article on Medium.com that had a pretty snacky way of adding some stickiness to New Year’s resolutions.

Melody Wilding wrote the article, Boost the Odds of Achieving Your Goals With 1 Simple Shift, and it has a simple premise: change the resolutions you make from the form of a statement, to the form of a question.

Here’s how:

Voice Over Is REALLY Hard. Until It Isn’t.

Hey, there!

When I talk to my students and clients, and prospective students and clients, I never seem to hear how easy they think VO is going to be to break into. They think it’s going to be extraordinarily hard.

And guess what? They’re right.

Until it isn’t anymore.

So. What’s the secret to making VO easy?
