What A Lovely Thing To Discover: Praise From CourVO

Hey there!

(JUST A FEW HOURS LEFT: Registration closes for the ACX Masterclass tonight at 9pm PT. This is the class you need to create a vibrant and professional audiobook narration business with Audible on ACX. Click here to register now.)

I always ask the people that come and take my free Getting Started in Voice Over class where they heard about it.

It’s nice to know who’s out there referring people to my class.

And just yesterday, I got a lovely first time answer, and one I didn’t expect.

Raw YouTube Captioning

hey there it’s David H Lawrence the 17th
and I woke up this morning to something
really really nice totally unexpected
I teach a class that’s free on the
internet you can find it anytime you
want
it’s called getting started in voiceover
and I basically tell you everything you
need all the tools you need all the
processes that you need to get started
in voiceover and you can find it at vo
to go go comm slash start now one of the
things that I ask people in the first
lessons homework is how did you find out
about this class and I was not expecting
the answer that I got this morning it
was a brand new answer for me
but it was really nice there’s a guy in
Las Vegas who used to be the anchor on
one of the television stations there
whose very big in voiceover been a
longtime friend Dave Courvoisier and
people know him as Corvo or Corr vo and
apparently he wrote a blog entry last
December and I was shocked at what he
said and I if you don’t mind I just want
to brag on him a little bit because he
was so sweet about this he goes rarely a
week goes by that I don’t get the
question about what voiceover coach to
recommend not many excel in more than a
handful of specialties now I even
hesitated to write this blog because
coaches are as competitive as talent and
in naming names I always manage to leave
someone out and there are hurt feelings
and I spend a lot of time making
apologies and reprinting a longer list
which leaves someone else out and it
never ends but right here and right now
I’m going to make a bold referral and
I’m reading this and I’m going what does
this have to do with me
this is how you know cuckoo I am I’m
going to name one individual he’s a film
and TV actor an ex broadcaster an
audiobook narrator a promo guy a
commercial voice actor a techie an
excellent all-around talent graduate of
the school of hard knocks and trial and
error veteran I think he’s actually a
rather reluctant coach and that’s what
makes his stuff so believable and
true civ he admits he doesn’t have all
the answers but you still come away with
a treasure trove of usable advice David
H Lawrence the 17th is no rookie he’s
been coaching for years as he also works
in the vo business I watched his
progress I’ve sampled his courses and
I’ve even done some one-on-one training
with him his stuff is even better than
ever the free sessions are video
recordings that he’s made with some
great nuggets of wisdom in each one now
this was before we started these daily
videos so he was talking about the
getting started class and the lessons
are available right now don’t miss this
excellent resource if you’re a newbie a
mid-level vo talent or even a seasoned
pro I mean we all need new approaches
and ideas and this was written because
I’d asked him if he wanted to be an
affiliate for my launch at the end of
2018 for the new 2019 vo – go go classes
and he did I didn’t know I didn’t even
know he made this this blog post
anyway he raps up like this he said I
wouldn’t make this kind of
recommendation unless I was confident it
was a good deal yes I’m making a little
bit on each referral it’s called
affiliate marketing but I wouldn’t do it
if I didn’t believe in the product now
there’s no charge for the getting
started class so there’s no money to be
made on this he was making money on the
the full course that we had but I
thought it was really really nice of him
to kind of break the the strategy that
he had I’m not trying to offend any of
the many coaches that he knows and I’m
gonna see him this fall I’m gonna go to
his big convention in Las Vegas can’t
wait to go back and so let me take a
moment and say thank you Dave I really
appreciate the kind words if you’re
interested in getting started in
voiceover go take the class we go to
google.com slash start there’s the
there’s the URL on the screen for you
and if you have wondered what a good
coach is all about and you’ve done some
research and you’ve done some finding
out and some rejecting of people that
you didn’t match up with tell me about
it what makes a good coach for you tell
me what doesn’t make a good coach for
you what makes you run for the hills
right leave me a comment below
especially if
watching this on VOD Vova calm if you’re
watching on YouTube go over to vo to
gogo calm and and and leave your comment
there because that’s where the
conversation is saying and moderated and
you know that’s where all the good stuff
is to that’s where the getting started
class is I’d love to see you there if
you’d like to join my youtube channel so
that you know when these videos come out
go ahead and click on my head there if
there’s no head then look for a
subscribe button somewhere on the page
and if you want to see the latest video
I’ve done click on that frame and
YouTube will play it for you I’m David H
Lawrence xvii thank you so much for
watching and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

I really liked your Free Starting class, not just because it’s FREE, but because YOU actually respond to each homework assignment and give great feedback( especially in helping “break’ the former Announcer style of commercial presentation! ( I’m still trying to get that ‘Bank of the West’ thing perfected!!) As a result of your FREE coaching, I’ve been following you and Dan O Day( who I purchased O Liners from back in the 70s in my radio days) and decided to take the plunge in your ACX Masterclass! After last night’s webinar about the upcoming class- I’m excited and can’t wait to start!!! Thanks for your ‘believable’ style, David!

From one really solid vo man (Couvo) about another – YOU; I absolutely concur!

I’ve had all kinds of good teachers and coaches in a lifetime of dance, stage and now, vo training. Some are better than others for various reasons, but I’ve found that if you really pay attention to your instincts, other people in the industry and ask solid questions, you can manage to find the best coaches for your personality and needs.

Me too Duane! I was stunned when there was homework in the free getting started class. But when David provided feedback to my submitted homework I kept saying to the screen, “You know this is free, right?!??” It was helpful and I learned a lot. I keep telling you, David, along the lines of what CourVO says, you’re unassuming, shoot from the hip and yet encouraging style really resonates. My VO coach has you listed on her resource list and I think finding vo2gogo has been one of the best nuggets she provides on that list! Looking forward to the ACX Masterclass!!

I run for the hills when a coach gives a quick webinar online only to tell you to get more information you have to take a $300 class on a single subject. So apparently that was the purpose of the webinar. I don’t see that with you.

I also took your Getting Started class and loved it. I was so nervous when I had to send in my MP3 of the :15 bank spot. You were so kind and uplifting with your personal comments and suggestions on how I could improve. Every day I listen to your One A Day video and can’t wait for the next one. Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with us.

    Mary

In my initial research I found coaches/companies charging very large sums of money for what seemed like very little training. I was skeptical of them right away. After looking at a number of options, your program offered a very large amount of training for a reasonable price. A successful VO friend of mine also highly recommended you. Add all that together with our phone conversation, and the phone conversations I had with your students, and I was sold. A good coach should offer all of that, be easy and fun to work with, and be a successful working VO talent. Your friend Dave is totally right about you. Thanks for the video David.

  6. Patricia Napolitano June 16, 2019 at 9:20 pm #

I have taken probably too many VO classes with many coaches. Glad to say most were pretty good, even the mediocre ones had some benefit. But none were as complete as your course, most do not have the follow up that you do, and almost all were significantly higher priced than you.
