Wait, Wait…What? They Actually Listened?!

Hey there!

In a recent video, I talked about how Zoom used the word “backslash” instead of “slash” when writing copy for their radio spots. And how I tried to get to the marketing department to wave them off doing that.

And a further issue with the Uninstall Zoom command and it’s placement in a precarious place.

I have to say…I was gobsmacked when they listened on both counts.

Hope this helps!

David

Raw YouTube Captioning

hey there it’s David H Lawrence the 17th
and I’m just so excited I don’t I don’t
know why I’m so excited well I kind of
do know why I’m so excited because this
is such a rare event but I had a
different video scheduled for today that
I completely delayed until another day
because something happened that never
happens
you know how you’ll complain to a
company about a problem that you’re
having with their products or something
that you see they could do better or or
even you you thanked them for something
and you never hear back ever okay so the
last video I did was about zoom using
the term backslash as opposed to slash
in their commercials right and me
talking to their marketing person about
that and the fact that because zoom had
this recent security hole on Macintosh
with their app on Macintosh and I loved
zoom I want you to understand I love
zoom but they had this security hole and
they were kind of taken to task by the
security industry for kind of ignoring
it it was a it’s no big deal
they had they had a thing that they
needed to fix and they fixed it and they
even fixed it to the point where they
gave Mac users the ability to uninstall
the the zoom app but unfortunately they
did it via a menu item and they put that
menu item at the bottom of the zoom
labeled menu the first menu in the app
where the quick command usually is the
quick command was right above it but
there’s uninstall zoom and I you know as
I said in the last video I nearly
uninstalled zoom twice because you get
used to the muscle memory of going to
the bottom of that menu as a Mac user to
find the quit command in all apps right
so I’m like okay I told him about it and
they did it
woke up this morning and I used soom for
a client I just got off the session with
my client Chris and I looked on the zoom
thing and I went to quit out of zoom and
the uninstall menu item was now at the
at the you know at a different point
where you wouldn’t hit it by a mistake
look there it is it’s not at the bottom
of the menu anymore you know that the
app auto updated
I guess overnight they fixed it they
listened I love you zoom I love the fact
that zoom dot us is this kind of
responsive company I really do anyway I
just wanted to share that with you that
that this happened because it happens so
rarely it really does it’s like I’m
excited about it and am I crazy
shouldn’t all companies be like this but
they’re not and this is why companies
become popular because of how they
handle things when things go sideways
certainly people companies everybody
becomes popular when they do things well
but when they’re faced with a challenge
and they rise to that challenge you know
it
it’s surprising and it shouldn’t be
surprising should it alright I usually
ask you for a comment you can leave a
comment about this if you like I just
wanted to share with you a little a
little victory and I wanted to publicly
thank zoom for listening to one of their
customers and and and doing something
that I think would benefit all of their
customers so there you go if you want to
get on my list I promise
most of the videos are not me just going
Wow look what happened if you want to
get on the list go ahead there’s a
subscribe button somewhere on the page
and there’s a form that you can fill out
to be on my mailing list and you’ll find
out about all kinds of cool things that
I’m gonna do and that I can provide to
you to help make your performance life
much much better and also if you want to
see the latest video that I’ve done
maybe you’re watching these out of order
go ahead and click on that frame there
and YouTube will play it for you I’m
David H Lawrence the 17th not
uninstalling zoom I thank you so much
for watching and I will talk to you
tomorrow.

Your enthusiasm is great! It is indeed rare that a company listens to feedback from customers, not to mention implementing changes right away. I use Zoom’s email client Zoho for acting stuff and I’ve had no issues with them. Thanks for the video David.

  2. Stuart Gauffi July 25, 2019 at 7:13 am #

Too funny. David, your hand gestures for slash and backslash once again reinforced the controversy–being backwards as presented to us, your audience. Completely subconscious on your part, but there it is.
    Congrats on getting results!

  3. Paula Faye Leinweber July 25, 2019 at 8:03 am #

Awesomeness!!! Thanks for sharing with us!

  4. Chris Ansoff July 25, 2019 at 8:29 am #

David, I agree, it is so amazing with companies actually listen to their users. Isn’t it sad that is such a low occurrence that we do get so excited when it does happen.
